Hunting and fishing have been Billy's passion for as long as he can remember. One of his most vivid memories as a young boy is the long anxious night before the opening day of squirrel season. Turkey hunting now seems to be his favorite, but any time he can get out to look for something to shoot at, he will be sure to have a great time. Still a kid at heart, Billy likes to make every trip fun no matter if he brings something home or not. It is definitely the thrill of the hunt that keeps him going every chance he gets. His goal is to get one of everything that can legally be hunted in the state of Indiana with his bow.

Billy is a very accomplished archer and even competed nationally in the pro class. His biggest win of all came in 2002 at the Indoor Nationals in Kansas City, Kansas where he shot a perfect score and went on to beat some of the most accomplished pro shooters in a shoot-off. Billy has always said that in order to make practice effective, you have to create that sense of pressure that you feel in a shoot-off in a major tournament. He must have practiced perfectly leading up to that tournament. He did go on to place in several other national tournaments, both indoor and 3D, and winning another national indoor tournament in Mason City, Iowa in 2004. After the birth of his youngest son in 2005, his desire to compete began to fade and his interest in taxidermy began to take over. The amount of time required to compete at the national level and the amount of time traveling really did not allow enough time for other interests.

Billy has always enjoyed building things and even designed and built his own home. This creativity and love of nature and wildlife made taxidermy a natural choice of trades, with the big benefit of staying close to home and setting his own schedule. He also loves to talk about hunting and fishing, and enjoys meeting people who share this love. Billy's goal in taxidermy is the same as it was with archery... to be the best. Not just one of the best, but the best. If Billy does compete in a tournament he goes to win. When customers pick up their deer or fish (or whatever it might be), he wants them to say his work is the best they have seen.
